[OMAN] Jebel Shams - View of Wadi Ghul (Grand Canyon of Arabia)
Wadi Ghul is known locally as the Grand Canyon of Arabia and the best place to view it is none other than on Oman’s highest mountain, Jebel Shams (Mountain of the Sun).
From Al Hamra, my tour guide drove up to Sama Resort where we would spend the night. Part of the road to Jebel Shams was unpaved pebble road. So be prepared for a bumpy ride. Again, 4x4 vehicle is recommended to go into the mountains.
After our check-in to Sama Resort, our guide brought us to Jebel Shams canyon edge where we had some leisure time to enjoy the spectacular view of Wadi Ghul below.
The vertical cliffs did remind me of Grand Canyon in U.S.A. during my visit back in 2012. Read my old post about Grand Canyon here and you would see some similarities.
Some part of the canyon edge is fitted with security fence while other parts remain open. If you want to take photographs on the canyon edge, you can do so on your own risk.
The cool weather in the mountains is definitely a welcomed change during mid-summer. We were able to walk around and enjoy the view comfortably.
Many were waiting for the sun set view.
Taking a family photo at edge of the cliff.
If you have not been to Grand Canyon before, a trip to Jebel Shams would give you the first taste of how it would be like to be at the Grand Canyon. Regardless of that, I still enjoy the view as it is.
