INDONESIA - Pawon & Mendut
The Pawon, Mendut and Borobudur Temple is located on a straight line, suggesting there was a symbolic meaning that binds these temples.
First stop, Pawon Temple. Located 1.75km northeast of Borobudur.
It is believed that Pawon Temple served to purify the mind prior to ascending Borobudur.
View of Mount Merapi from the temple.
Next up is Mendut Temple. Located another 1.15km northeast from Pawon Temple.
A description of the temple.
From the left is Boddhisatva Avalokitesvara, Dhyani Buddha Vairocana and Boddhisatva Vajrapani.
Although the exact ritual process is unknown, there is a religious relationship between the three temples.
In modern times, during Wesak, Buddhist observes the annual ritual by walking from Mendut to Pawon and finally to Borobudur.
The tour guide brought us to a Salak plantation.
Salak is an important fruit of Yogyakarta.
The spines of the Salak tree.
The fruit is also known as snake fruit due to the reddish-brown scaly skin.
Salak fruit for sale at the roadside.
My next destination is heading up towards Mount Merapi.
