HAWAII - Sun, Sand and Sea
Waikiki might not offer people the serenity and relaxation they are looking for when coming to Hawaii. But with 19 beaches in Oahu, you just need to know where to look for the place that offers a less crowded surrounding. My sis rented a car for our outing for the day.
Stop here at Bubbies for some dessert.
Bubbies serves homemade ice cream and dessert.
Their speciality is the famous mochi ice cream. With over 20 flavours to chooses from, the mochi looks delicious.
Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream & Desserts has been manufacturing ice cream for over 27 years.
Other than the mochi ice cream, they also have ice cream pies and cakes.
A cosy restaurant to enjoy your ice cream.
Chose the flavour of my mochi and we are on our way.
The rich and creamy mochi ice cream sure taste good. Most definitely recommended.
We’re on an eating spree!
After dessert, stopped here at the Wahoo’s Fish Tacos for drinks and more food.
Had some fish tacos and a cocktail before continuing on with our journey.
First highlight of the day is Lanai Lookout.
Lanai Lookout is a scenic lookout that features a very distant view of the Island of Lanai. Hmmm…don’t think I can see the island. I wouldn't know if I’m looking at one though.
Nate having a closer look at the surrounding area.
President Obama’s grandmother and mother’s ashes were scattered here.
Me and my sis at the Lanai Lookout.
Watching the waves crash against the rock.
Though dangerous, some extreme divers dive here for the rush of adrenaline
Love it here. The scenery is breath-taking.
Time to climb back up the rocky path, to the parking lot.
Welcome to Sandy Beach Park.
In fact, this stretch of beach is a favourite of President Barack Obama.
Whoa…the waves are really treacherous at this beach.
Sandy Beach, also known as the ‘break-neck’ beach because more injuries occur at this beach per year than any other beach in Hawaii.
The beach is known for body boarding and body surfing. The massive shore break can be dangerous, so bodysurf at your own risk.
The Halona Blowhole can be seen from Sandy Beach and it is the best angle to see the rock formation shoots sea water into the air through the cave acting like a geyser.
Just feels so relaxing sitting at the beach while watching the waves thundering towards the shore and enjoy the sea breeze against your skin.
Or you can just take pictures of the waves and surfers.
Nate and my sis having a fun time at the beach.
Sandy Beach is popular among the locals.
Body surfers having a blast here.
Don’t spend all your time at the Waikiki Beach, Sandy Beach located on the South Shore of Oahu is a beautiful beach worth visiting.
Really had wonderful time at the beach with my sis.
I don’t know if its a sea or a river, but there are some people having a dip here.
Next up, Kailua Beach located on the Windward Coast.
The waves seems gentler here.
With nice fine sand and gentle sea breeze, this beach is perfect for sunbathing, swimming and wind surfing.
Backdrop of tiny islands, makes Kailua Beach one of Hawaii’s most beautiful beach.
You can opt for some adventure by kayaking to some of the nearby island.
Two ladies lounging on the sand with their dog.
Visitors strolling at the beach. On the top of the picture is Popoia Island also known as Flat Island which serves mostly as a bird sanctuary.
That’s my sis having a dip at the ocean.
It’s my first time seeing people kite surfing. I didn’t even know that people can surf this way. Seems quite difficult.
Kids building a sand castle.
With its white powdery sand, turquoise water and gentle breeze, Kailua Beach is so far the best beach I’ve been to in Hawaii.
Time to make a move.
Managed to explore two beaches of Oahu and I felt just so relaxed and rejuvenating.
Passed by a few beaches on the way back.
One can relax on Oahu just by going to the right destination on the island.
A secluded spot on the beach to enjoy your book.
Or a spot to enjoy your fishing.
Unlike Waikiki, other beaches are not crowded.
'Chinaman’s Hat is a cone shaped island off Kualoa Park. It is called Chinaman’s Hat because of the resemblance to the peasant’s hat worn in rural China.
Wouldn’t miss the opportunity for a photo with Chinaman’s Hat.
Where to next?
Dinner of course! Ate at the Giovannis Original White Shrimp Truck.
My sis sure knows every nook and cranny of Oahu.
It's a popular place for both locals and visitors to go to.
What should I have?
I had the Lemon Butter Shrimp. Yummy!
Time for some dessert at the Aoki’s Shave Ice.
The locals swears by shave ice to cool down after spending time at the beach.
Hmmm….what should I have? They all seems yummy.
Even President Obama famously treated his family to some shave ice.
Shave ice is a must try dessert.
Really had a wonderful time travelling around Oahu together with my sis. Other than the touristy area of Waikiki, Oahu has so much more to offer.
