GREECE - Santorini (Nea Kameni Volcano)
Nea Kameni which means ‘New Burnt’ is a volcano located inside the caldera of Santorini. So it's basically a smaller volcano inside a bigger volcano. This new volcano only started to emerge from the sea about 300 years ago. The eruption that occurred from 1701 – 1711 must be a spectacular view for the inhabitants of Santorini at that time.
Because of time constraint, my beau took the cable car to Fira port.
While I explore the capital of Santorini, my beau went off on a boat trip to Nea Kameni Volcano.
View of Fira from the cable car.
The donkey steps linking the town of Fira and the port.
It's actually a good idea to walk down and to take the cable car back up. It's free if you take the staircase.

My beau boarded the Albatross.
There are actually many tour companies offering boat trips to the surroundings of Santorini including to the volcano. After much searching on the net, Pelican Travel offers the cheapest trip to Santorini volcano and hot spring at 20 euro per person. Their website is https://mysantorini.rezdy.com/index.
Pelican Travel also offers many other boat and land trips of Santorini at a very affordable price. Their office is located at the central square in Fira.
Off my beau went.
During the boat trip you can get a nice view of Santorini’s caldera wall.
Arrived at Nea Kameni Volcano.

The barren land of the volcano. Just rocks.
The hike up the volcano was actually not that difficult.
You can rest for while before proceeding up the volcano.

That’s my beau there.
You can actually feel the heat and see the steam rising out from the ground.
Walking downhill was not so tiring.
Back to the pier.
All on board.
We’re good to go!
Nea Kameni is also famous for its hot spring. Located at the foot of the caldera wall, beside a church is the hot spring.
The yellow water contain sulfur and are characterized for its healing properties. Dipping yourself in this hot spring is just to experience seawater hot spring instead of the usual inland hot spring.
The boat will drop you as near as possible to the hot spring and you have to jump from the boat and swim towards the hot spring.
If you can't swim, that’s just too bad.
It's just a 30 minutes stop here. By the time you get off the boat and swim to the hot spring, you get only about 10 minutes to dip yourselves in the hot spring.
After the hot spring stop, it's time to head back to Fira.
The volcano walls of Santorini.
Back to Fira port.
You can try the donkey ride back to the town of Fira.
Or you can walk all the way up this 500 plus steps sharing the steps with the donkeys.
A souvenir shop.
You can also grab a bite at one of the restaurants at the Port.
My beau hung around the port for a while before taking the cable car back up to the town. In case if you are wondering if the trip is worth to go? My beau told me that if you have spent about a week in Santorini and have nothing else better to do, then this trip is recommended.
Santorini is a magical place... i had the best time of life there. Actually, we enjoyed a lot some of these activities https://chooseyafy.com/activities-more/ Next time you should try one of them. They are amazing and the people are very polite and well organized.
