GREECE - Diving and Boat Trip at Santorini
A sea trip around Santorini’s caldera, taking in the cliff face sights from sea level is one of the recommended activity to do while visiting this beautiful island. You can also do a little scuba diving while you’re at the sea.
Woke up to a beautiful morning at Oia.
Enjoyed the beautiful view while waiting to be picked up.
The van from Santorini Dive Center came around 9am to pick us up.
For further info, please visit their website at www.divecenter.gr.
Their dive station is located at Caldera Beach, a small remote beach below the cliffs of Akrotiri.
I actually didn't go for the dive. Enjoyed some time here at the beach with my son while waiting for my beau to finish his diving trip.
The first dive was at Nea Kameni.
Diving along the slopes of the crater.
If you’re expecting schools of fishes, you’ll be disappointed.
The main highlight of this trip is actually seeing the wreck of the Sea Diamond cruise ship which ran aground in 2007 and sank.
My son having a blast at the Caldera Beach.
The second dive was just off the beach. A sharp drop off the coast.
Time for lunch.
Just beside the dive station, is a tavern overlooking the beautiful Aegean Sea.
Remezzo tavern.
The food was delicious and much cheaper than other parts of Santorini which I had visited.
After lunch, we went on a private boat trip.
We rented a boat from the dive center.
We had the boat all to ourselves.
The lighthouse.
The Indian head.
The Red Beach.
And of course you can’t miss the White Beach while you’re in Santorini.
White Beach is actually just a short boat ride from Red Beach.
Usually people visiting Santorini will book a Catamaran Sunset Cruise. Yes, it’s all luxurious and you can have your meal on board. I actually almost booked a sailing tour. I mean the description of the sailing trip was impressive. A stop at the Red Beach, White Beach, etc. After much research, the stop of the boat is actually pretty far away from the beach. Because of the many rocks at the sea bed, these big boats cannot proceed closer to the beach.
Because of the distance from the beach and the choppy waters, they just swim around the boat and they don’t actually step foot on the beach.
As for us, we could get as close to the beach as possible. Haha.
Just a short swim, or should I say short walk and I have reached White Beach.
Like the Red Beach, it is called White Beach only because the back cliff is white and not because of the white sand.
Nice view from the beach.
White Beach is not overly crowded like the Red Beach because White Beach is only accessible by boat.
The last public water taxi to leave the beach.
After the people left, I had the whole beach to myself. I mean of course together with my son and hubby.
It really was a nice experience of having the whole of White Beach to ourselves.
Time to leave.
Goodbye, White Beach.
Sun, sea and sand. What is there not to like? With a heavy heart, I left Santorini on the following day.
