GREECE - Santorini (Fira Town)
Fira is the main town of Santorini. Its central location makes it a main hub for transportation, complete with a bus and taxi station, cable car station that connects to the old port at the bottom of volcano cliff. It also has the island’s largest shopping center and the biggest choice of dining and entertainment.
There’s a regular local bus service that connects Fira and Oia. I took this bus to reach Fira.
The busy streets of Fira is filled with tourists and locals.
In summer, there’s lots of cruise ships that dock at the Old Port.
Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral was originally built in 1827. In 1956, the church was badly damaged during the earthquake and it has been rebuilt since. The rolling arches of the courtyard is easily recognized.
A nice mosaic above the main entrance to the church.
No photos is allowed inside the church. Therefore, I didn’t take any.
The courtyard of the church is pretty spacious.
Fira is a famous shopping district. Jewelry shops, souvenirs shops lines the cobbled streets of Fira.
A Chinese restaurant in Fira.
Walking north towards the Catholic Church.
The bell tower of Catholic Church.
Its yellow exterior makes it stand out from afar.
The Catholic Church is dedicated to Saint John, the Baptist.
Interior of the Cathedral Church.
This is the cable car station that connect visitors to the Old Port. This is the fastest and most convenient way to reach to and from the Old Port. My hubby proceeded to take the cable car ride to reach the Old Port for his tour to the volcanic island of Nea Kameli.
While me and my son took a break at a cafe near the cable station.
It is at the highest point of the cliff and overlook the whole Fira town.
It’s time for shopping!
I bought some ceramic bracelet for myself and as souvenir. It wasn’t too expensive and it’s available in a rainbow of colors.
After shopping, it’s time for lunch.
I found a nice restaurant that offers nice view of the sea.
Fira is easy to explore on foot and no trip to Santorini would be complete without visiting this charming town.
