JAPAN–Hakone & Mt. Fuji

Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan, measuring 3,776m high. Its symmetrical cone and often snow capped top is a well known symbol of Japan.


This is the night scene that is viewed from my hotel room at Hamamatsu.

We only stayed there for a night. The next morning we left Hamamatsu to Izu-Hakone-Mt Fuji National Park.




We took a cable car ride up to the top of the volcano.



The beautiful Mt. Fuji is easily recognised in the distance.



The wind was really strong up there. I had to pull my hood up.


Egg flavoured ice cream! It didn’t really taste like egg though. But it’s still worth a try.


Next we headed to Peace Park in Gotemba city.




The park offers a scenic view of the Mt. Fuji.



The Peace Park has a white pagoda on top of the hill with a golden Buddha statue.









Next, we’re at the National Park Hakone.


We had lunch here in this restaurant with a great view of Lake Ashi.









We lingered here for a while before we began our shopping spree at Gotemba Premium Outlets.





At night, a sumptuous buffet dinner awaited us – Hokkaido crab! The yukata is complimentary for the hotel guest.






Hakone is also famous for its hot spring. This section is for ladies only.


And this is the men’s section.

We headed to another memorable destination – Oshino Hakkai.





Oshino Hakkai is where eight spring pools gush forth, spring-fed by currents that flow from Mt Fuji.







The spring water was simply crystal clear.


You can see fishes swimming inside the ponds.





The image of snow-capped Mt. Fuji will last in my memory for a very long time.
