Picture 037Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor Archaeological Park which attracts tourist from worldwide. Angkor Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992. It covers a vast area of 400 square kilometres and contains the remains of several ancient capitals of the Khmer Empire from 9th to 15th century.

Picture 015First, I entered through the gate of Angkor Thom. Angkor Thom is the most enduring capital of Khmer Empire. The city was built in Bayon style. Giants figures carrying naga was at both side of the entrance tower.

Picture 027Angkor, also known as the Lost City, was discovered in 1860 spread across a 64km site surrounding the modern village of Siem Reap.

PICT1040At last, we arrived at Angkor Wat which means “City of Temples”. It is surrounded by a moth that is 190m wide.

PICT1046It was first built by the Khmer King Suryavaman II in the early 12th century as a Hindu temple which later converted into a Buddhist temple.


PICT1048The temple represents Mount Meru, home of gods in Hindu mythology.

PICT1054You literally ‘climb’ up the steps. Ladies, don’t wear skirt if you intend to climb up the steps of Angkor Wat.

PICT1062After visiting Angkor Wat, I decided to make a little de-tour to Ta Phrom. You may recognise a few scenes from Tomb Raider is shot here.

PICT1064Ta Phrom's location in the lush jungle gives it a mysterious aura.

PICT1074The famous doorway of Ta Phrom – it is one of the most photographed spot in Ta Phrom. Large section of the temple is unstable. Most people just follow wooden walkways that the authorities constructed.
