ARMENIA - Lake Sevan
Being a landlocked country, Armenians flock to Lake Sevan during summer to enjoy their holidays. With a total surface area of its basin at 5,000km2, Lake Sevan is the largest lake in Armenia and the Caucasus region. At an altitude of 1,900m above sea level, it is one of the largest freshwater high altitude lakes in the world.
After traveling more than a week across the Caucasus region, it was time for me relax and rejuvenate here at Lake Sevan.
I stayed here at Blue Sevan Hotel for the night.
Nice room and most importantly, there was a heater. Located at a high altitude, it was really cold at night.
Nice view of the lake from the room.
Usually packed during the summer, we were the only guest here at Blue Sevan as October is a low season at Lake Sevan. We had the whole hotel complex to our self. How great was that!
At night however, it became eerie. Only our room and our tour guide room was occupied and there was no other people at all. Even the hotel staff have all returned back to their home. After walking around the hotel for a while, we decided to head back to our room.
5 minutes drive a way from Blue Sevan, there a few restaurants along the lake. The best looking one was the Collete Restaurant.
The food was delicious and inexpensive. At Sevan you most definitely must try the Sevan Trout which can only be found at Lake Sevan.
Rise and shine. A mountain range at the back of the hotel and….
…..a magnificent view of Lake Sevan in the front.
A man fishing at the lake early in the morning.
The clear waters of the lake.
A small strip of beach at the lake in front of the hotel. There are actually numerous beaches located along the entire Lake Sevan shore.
Relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful view of the lake with mountain range at the background.
Panoramic view of Lake Sevan.
Enjoyed the breathe of fresh air at the forest beside the lake.
A tombstone of someone.
Autumn foliage of the forest.
How I wish I can wake up to this kind of scenery every morning.
Well, one of these days, I might be able to afford a house beside a lake at a temperate country.
A sailboat for rent for those interested to sail at the lake.
Had breakfast here at the adjoining building of the hotel.
Had a satisfying breakfast.
Felt refreshed after spending some time here at Lake Sevan and eager to continue on with my journey exploring the country of Armenia.
Time to leave the hotel.
Several abandoned building can be seen after the collapsed of Soviet Union.
If you want some other kind of entertainment, you can always visit the Casino Golden Palace.
A Lake Sevan viewing point.
Located on top of a hill at a peninsula at the shore of Lake Sevan is the Sevanavank monastery where I will be heading to next.
