JAPAN - Fukuoka
Japan is one of the best country I’ve ever been to. I went there in 2010, just a year before the devastating Tsunami happened. I joined the Apple Holiday 10D8N 2000km tour. And my first stop is Fukuoka. Fukuoka is Kyushu’s largest city. Our airline is SIA. We flied from KLIA and had a brief transit at Changi Airport before we flied to Japan.
The Kyushu island is in sight.
The city of Fukuoka.
Arriving at Fukuoka Airport.
Our first stop was Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It is the most famous Shinto Shrine dedicated to Sugawara Michizane. He was a scholar and a politician of the Heian Period. Due to his great learning, Michizane has been associated with Tenjin, a Shinto deity of education.
However, his rivalry with Fujiwara had resulted his exile from the capital city of Kyoto to the far-off Dazaifu. He passed away in Dazaifu in 903. The Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu was built on the site of his grave.

Taking photo at the entry to the shrine courtyard.
Touching the ox statue is said to bring one good luck.
This is the purification place to cleanse one's hands and mouth.
These are Ema – wooden plaques bearing prayers or wishes.
A bridge in the compound.
We found a group of sumo wrestles with little school children.
Cute school children.
A lady in a funny sumo wrestles costume.
Even two kids were wearing them. Looks like they were trying to imitate the sumo wrestlers and wrestle in the ring.
Totoro! I’m a big of the Totoro anime.
I bought a Totoro cushion here.
And tried out the green tea ice cream here.
Cute little girl wearing kimono with her fashionita mommy.
Had lunch at a local Sumo wrestler theme restaurant.
We had our lunch on tatami.
Life-like sumo wrestler statues in the restaurant.
Beautiful Ginko trees lining the street outside the restaurant.
After lunch, we head to Nagasaki.
