[OMAN] Al Hamra Ruins

The 400-year old Al Hamra village is famous for its beautiful ruins. The Al Hamra ruins are estimated to be between 700-1000 years old and are left completely untouched.

Al Hamra is located 6 km away from Misfat Al Abriyeen village and about 2 hours from Muscat. It is also close to Nizwa. Many people do a day trip from Nizwa.

My tour guide dropped us here and left us to freely explore the ruins on our own.

Most of the houses are deserted and the streets are quiet.

My beau climbed to a different level to get a better view of the surroundings while my son and I stayed on the ground. This is the view from the roof.

Looking down from the window above.

Interior of the empty house.

It is interesting to see how the two- and three-storey mud-brick houses are still well-preserved despite being abandoned.

Visitors can visit Bait Al Safa Museum to know more about ancient Oman lifestyle.

Keep in mind that there is another place known as the “Al Hamra Village” in the United Arab Emirates, so when you are searching and planning, make sure you are specifically looking to visit "Al Hamra Ruins Oman".
