[MALAYSIA] Selangor - A Visit to Farm Fresh, UPM

Farm Fresh @ UPM is a farm operated by Farm Fresh, Malaysia's largest homegrown dairy company. It is a great place for family outing during the weekends. Its main attractions include tractor ride, barrel ride for kids, petting zoo, farm, fighting fishes and etc.

Getting there:

The only way to get there is by car. The paved road will give way to gravel road from the entrance gate. Free outdoor parking is provided for visitors.

When we arrived around 11a.m., there was already a queue in front of the ticket counter building which is shaped like a farm barn. Ticket during weekends and public holidays are RM 5 more expensive as compared to weekdays.

After buying the entrance ticket, you can choose to ride the tractor first (waiting line on the left of the ticket office) or later after you finish your visit to the farm. Your ticket is valid for the whole day with unlimited re-entry until closing time.

A covered walkway besides The Acre Restaurant.

Visitors can try feeding the rabbits here.

Follow the sign "This way to our ladies" to see where the cows are kept.

To be honest, the odor was quite pungent. So a face mask helps if you cannot take the smell.

The cows are fed with grass grown in the farm, mixed with grains and other stuff.

A cow cleaning herself by rubbing against the giant brush.

You can walk all the way to the back of the shed to see the cow milking machines. The cows are milked twice a day (5a.m. and 5p.m.).

Next, we headed to see the fighting fishes.

This is also where kids can wait for the barrel ride. The boys were happy to get on the barrel ride although the weather was hot. The barrel ride would go one big round before coming back to the starting point.

This is where visitors can see how the African Nightcrawler earthworm compost the cow dung to organic fertilizer. A presentation about the compost process will be held at 11a.m., 2p.m. and 4p.m.

Freshly grown flowers and vegetable at the green house.

Pumpkin tunnels. The pumpkins grown here are mini size as compared to the giant ones I saw in U.S.A.

The weather was too hot not to stop by the Cream Hauz and have some freshly made ice cream. For soft ice cream, there are two flavours available - mango and fresh milk (RM 3.50). The gelato ice creams that I tried were Ferrero Rocher, New York Cheesecake and Belgian Chocolate.

There is also a shop selling fresh milk, yogurt and vegetables.

The educational centre in front of the Cream Hauz is a good place to learn about environmental sustainability.

This bench was made using 6,890 units of used beverage cartons.

Say Milk!

The exhibits inside the educational centre. There are lots of product that can be made using used beverage cartons.

We had fun posing with the cow or bull statues and tractor near the entrance.

Last but not least, we went for the tractor ride. The tractor ride is available at every 30-minutes interval. Pregnant women are advised not to take the tractor ride as the ride could be quite bumpy along the gravel road. The tour guide on the tractor shared some information of the company and the farm.

The tractor took us up to the hill overlooking the Farm Fresh farm. There is also a Farm Fresh sign as a photo spot. And this concludes my visit to Farm Fresh @ UPM.
