[MALAYSIA] Sekinchan Paddy Gallery

Sekinchan is known for being one of the major rice producing area in Malaysia. A visit to Sekinchan would not be complete without a visit to the paddy fields and Paddy Gallery. Paddy Gallery is a rice-processing factory, gallery and museum where visitors can learn abut the life cycle of paddy from seeds to rice.

As we were approaching Paddy Gallery, we passed by paddy fields which were unfortunately mostly harvested. My visit to Sekinchan was 28th May. I didn't expect it to be harvested so soon (sob, sob).

Visitors who wish to see the museum will need to buy entrance tickets to enter. The entrance tickets come with free packet of 250g rice. Upon entering the gallery, they will show a short video clip explaining the life cycle of rice - how it is planted, harvested and processed in the factory.

Afterwards, a tour guide will explain in further details as we walked through the factory.

Exhibition in the museum.

After the visit, you can buy their rice products in their shop. You can find 'pearl' rice, white or brown rice, Basmati and even glutinous rice in the shop. Visitors can also sample dessert and snacks made with rice.

The rice in Sekinchan is harvested twice a year (usually June and December). Besides the Paddy Gallery, don't forget to visit Pearl Rice Garden to see the various growth stages of paddy (from vegetative, reproductive to ripening) besides the building. We spent some time taking photos here.

Just be careful not to sink your foot into the mud when taking photos.
