There are few experiences in Malaysia that whisk you away to a different continent and a bygone era quite like a visit to The Smokehouse Hotel & Restaurant in the Cameron Highlands. This charming, Tudor-style boutique hotel has been a beacon of classic British country house hospitality since 1937, and its dining experience, especially its famous breakfast and brunch—is the perfect encapsulation of its old-world charm.

Tucked amidst the cool, verdant landscape of the Cameron Highlands, The Smokehouse is surrounded by its own award-winning, manicured gardens.

The dining experience takes place in the bright and airy conservatory. This space is designed to bring the outside in, allowing you to breakfast surrounded by plants and the gentle sounds of nature.

The staff maintain a traditional, polite standard of service, enhancing the feeling of a welcoming, grand old house.

While their classic English Afternoon Tea with "the best scones east of the Suez" is legendary, the morning and brunch offerings are equally deserving of praise. The menu proudly features traditional British cuisine, using the wonderful local produce that the highlands are known for. We ordered Beef Wellington, grilled cod and two chicken dishes.

The hotel's interiors, filled with antique furniture, plush sofas, ornate tableware, and a cozy fireplace in the common areas, feel like a historical journey. Every element, from the wood-paneled walls to the collected curiosities, adds to the charm.

For anyone seeking a moment of peace, The Smokehouse offers a unique blend of colonial heritage and a serene, beautiful setting. We spent some time wandering in the garden before leaving.

If you’re planning a trip to the Cameron Highlands and looking for a truly memorable meal, make a reservation for brunch at The Smokehouse Hotel & Restaurant. It is an essential stop that offers a slice of Britain, beautifully preserved and served with a side of Malaysian warmth.
