JAPAN – Tokyo City Tour (Tokyo Tower)
It was my free and easy day at Tokyo. So I decided to visit some iconic buildings in Tokyo including the Tokyo Imperial Palace and Tokyo Tower. My first destination that day was Tokyo Imperial Palace. It is just a short walk from Tokyo station.
Tokyo Imperial Palace is the main residence of the Emperor of Japan. It is built on the site of old Edo castle.
The palace map.
The inner ground of the palace are generally not opened to the public except the east garden.
Behind me is the guard tower and the east gate to the Imperial Palace.
The east garden is opened to the public throughout the years except on Mondays, Fridays and special occasions. Too bad it was closed when I went there.
Walked around the large park area of the Imperial Palace.
Train section dedicated for women only. Hmm, what’s my next destination? Tokyo Tower, of course.
There is a temple near Tokyo Tower which is the Zozoji Temple. It is one of Tokyo’s major temple and the head temple of the Jodo sect of Japanese Buddhism in the Kanto Region.
Most of the temple’s building are recent reconstruction except for the main entrance gate – Sangedatsumon Gate.
Sangedatsumon Gate.
Are we there yet?
Yes, I saw a light fixture resembling the Tokyo Tower. I must be near.
The real thing is towering behind me. At 333 meters high, it is the world’s tallest self-supporting steel tower.
The tower actually acts as a support to an antenna.
This is where visitors can buy tickets to ascend to the main observatory at 150 metres and a special observatory at 250 metres.
A miniature of Tokyo Tower.
There is a nice and serene garden surrounding the Tokyo Tower.
And I found a perfect spot to take picture of the Tokyo Tower!
There wasn’t anyone around so we were free to post whatever post we like.
Well, we had fun. Now it’s time to go…
… for lunch. I had a simple beef rice set which cost around 450 yen at that time. It was cheap, fast and delicious.
And then I was lost. No idea where I was, just trying to figure a way to get back to the subway.
But being lost is not necessary a bad thing. I got to see some beautiful monuments in what seemed like a financial and business district.
At last when I got to Roppongi Hills, it’s already getting dark.
The nightlife here is quite famous.

A rose sculpture.
You can see the Tokyo Tower at the background.
I spent some time in a bar at Roppongi Hill.
Roppongi Hill.sure is beautiful especially when all the lights are lit up at night. It is an ideal place for a romantic night.
