[NETHERLANDS] Amsterdam Albert Cuyp Market and Magna Plaza
If you like to shop, I would recommend a visit to two vastly different shopping venue in Amsterdam: Albert Cuyp Market and Magna Plaza. Albert Cuyp Market is the largest and most famous open air market in Amsterdam where you can bargain and buy fresh products whereas Magna Plaza is a high end shopping mall where you can shop for designer clothing and fashion accessories.
Getting to Albert Cuyp Market:
The Albert Cuyp is located just steps away from the Heineken Experience and it is a 10-minute walk from the Rijksmuseum.
Albert Cuyp Market has over 300 stalls lining both sides of the Albert Cuyp street.
The stalls sell everything from flowers, fruit, vegetables, cheese, fish to clothes.
You can try a traditional Dutch snack here called Poffertjes. It is small fluffy pancakes topped with various toppings.
I ordered the typical Poffertjes which is served with powdered sugar and butter. It costs me 4.5 euros. Small serving has 10 pieces (from 3 euros) while large serving has 20 pieces (from 5.5 euros). You have to pay for the additional toppings of your selection. It's a sweet treat which I enjoyed very much.
You can also try Stroopwafel (1.5 euros) at Albert Cuyp Market.
The market is usually open from 9:30 am to about 5 pm, Monday to Saturday.
There are also some chic cafe and restaurant nearby Albert Cuyp Market.
Magna Plaza is a shopping center which is located behind the Royal Palace. This former post office is now a high end shopping center.
Magna Plaza is open every day until 7pm or until 9pm on Thursday.
The shopping centre has boutiques on three floors.
Although Magna Plaza is not big, it has some cool gift stores.
Even if you are not here for shopping, Magna Plaza is worth a visit just for the neo-Gothic architecture and impressive interior.
