[TAIWAN] YILAN - Diu Diu Dang Forest Park and Jimmy Park

If you’re heading to Yilan, Taiwan, and looking for a spot that feels like stepping directly into a storybook, you don't have to go far. Right outside the Yilan Railway Station, you’ll find two of the most Instagrammable and enchanting spots in the city: Diu Diu Dang Forest Park and Jimmy Park.
Whether you're a fan of Taiwanese illustrator Jimmy Liao or just someone who appreciates a bit of urban magic, these parks are a must-visit.

Diu Diu Dang Forest Park (丟丟噹森林) 

Located directly across from the train station, this "forest" isn't made of wood and leaves, but of towering green metal structures designed by architect Huang Sheng-yuan. The nine steel trees stand 14 meters tall, creating a modern, industrial canopy that mimics a forest. The highlight of the park is The Starry Sky Train. Suspended high under the metal canopy, this massive, colorful train looks like it’s flying straight out of Jimmy Liao’s famous picture book, Starry Starry Night.

The park also has some musical installation which are modeled after the characters that the famous Taiwanese illustrator, Jimmy Liao created. 

Jimmy Park (宜蘭幾米公園)

Just a short walk south of the station lies the official Jimmy Park. Formerly an old railway dormitory area, it was transformed into a public art space dedicated to the whimsical world of  Jimmy Liao.
The park centers around the themes of "Travel" and "Memory." Look for the colorful oversized suitcases scattered throughout, they represent the journeys we all take in life.

The main characters of my favourite book “A Chance of Sunshine” can also be found here. We had fun posing with the life-sized statues and scenes from his most beloved works.

Admission to both parks are free and open 24/7. 

Just across the road from Jimmy Park, there a "bingsu" stall selling shaved ice with various toppings.

There is also a small shopping mall with arcade games and indoor playground, a perfect stopover for family with children.

We really enjoyed these whimsical parks.
